It was one of the rare occasions in Indian history when Mr. Jagdeep Dhankad the incumbent Vice-President of India decided to resign citing his health concerns. The Constitution of India provides for contingencies, so, in such an event when a Vice-President resigns, the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha presides over the proceedings of Rajya Sabha. Now, as per Article 67, an election shall be held for the post of Vice-President and the electoral college consisting of members of both Houses of Parliament by a single transferable vote.
